Do we talk about Plus enough?

One finding from some recent customer interview synthesis was that a large proportion of the group had first heard about our Plus plan through one of our own social media posts.

For others, seeing it mentioned on our Instagram or Twitter accounts was what gave them the nudge to finally give the free trial a go.

Screenshot of the top of my Up Next Suggestions page on StoryGraph. There are two rows of information, divided by a thin, grey line. Both rows feature a book to the left and some text and a button to the right. The top row shows the cover of Harlem Shuffle by Colson Whitehead. The text to the right reads: We've picked this one out just for you from your StoryGraph recommendatios — enjoy! Above that text is a yellow label reading "Powered by machine learning". The second row shows The Heart's Invisible Furies by John Boyne. The text reads "Here's a random pick!". Both pieces of text have a green "Add to Up Next" button underneath them.
My favourite Plus feature — Up Next Suggestions

We want to strike up a good balance of content and make sure people following along don't mistakenly think you have to pay to get the most out of StoryGraph, but our last posts and tweets focused solely on Plus were months ago and it's the success of our paid plan that'll allow us to survive independently years into the future!

So...I think it's time we spoke about it some more! Maybe we should host some giveaways to kick off proceedings. 😌

Fun fact: Across the last 30 days, 22% of people who took out a free trial have converted! That's pretty good, right? 😁

Since last time...

I thought we were going to be implementing improvements to reading challenges, searching for books in the app, and the process for adding and editing read dates...

Screenshot of a StoryGraph tweet. The text reads: "We want to make adding, editing, and viewing start and finished read dates as smooth and intuitive as possible within the next couple of weeks! What would you like to see regarding this in your ideal StoryGraph world?". There is an image underneath: Screenshot of a read date pane against a book on StoryGraph. It features black text on a white background. The text reads: "You have read this book 2 times in 2012 and 2021. You last finished reading this book on..." and then there are 3 select boxes in a row, each filled with the following: 4, January, 2020. Underneath in green is a "Set to today" link, and finally there's a grey button labelled: "View/edit read history".

Instead, the last two weeks were filled with bug fixes, accessibility improvements, and exploring a book pane redesign.

All of these have cropped up as prerequisites of the features we wanted to work on!

With software, it often turns out this way. 😅

Next two weeks

The most exciting thing is that we should have hit a new user signup milestone by the time the next issue is out... 👀

Screenshot of a part of our internal dashboard. It features black text on a white background. The text reads: Number of Users, 990572.
How should we celebrate? 🤔

What I'm reading

I finished Toni Morrison's Sula last night! What a read!

Screenshot of the book pane for Sula on StoryGraph. To the left is the book cover, which is purple, with 'Sula' written down it in thick, black text. To the right is all of the book information. It's been tagged with: fiction, classics, historical, emotional, reflective, sad, slow-paced. Underneath the tags are is written: 174 pages, first published 1973. There is some green text reading "Owned", and there's a user tag added reading 'june-tbr'. The book has been marked as 'read'.

Have a great week,

Nadia
