#11 - Sooo, what did you think?

How I summarise and gain insight from my customer interviews and what I discovered from this week's research.

What's this 'synthesis' thing all about?

When doing any sort of research with people, you need an effective way to summarise the feedback and figure out what you should focus on next.

A great way to do this is to pop each point made on a (virtual) post-it note (colour-coded by person or type of point, e.g. pain point, positive feedback) and group similar ones.

After you've discarded the post-its where fewer than 3 people have discussed that point—a way to reduce noise in a sea of information—summarise what each remaining cluster of notes is telling you. Then decide on a next action for each.

Last week

Here are my key learnings from the 5 customer interviews I did last week:
  • All of the time spent manually onboarding people meant that each tester gained value from the app within the first minute

  • The filter menu was popular and most feature requests were around enhancing it

  • The app is a very solo experience. Even though not all testers are keen for social features, nearly everyone wants to see a summary of the reviews submitted by the community, especially since the review format on the site is unique.
This week

I'm going to focus on three things:
  • Delivering features that I think will bring the most increased value and joy

  • Starting to onboard the next cohort of testers

  • Looking into what funding options are out there...
More on the reasoning behind the latter next week. 😁
What I'm reading right now

I'm doing a slow (once-a-month-ish) chronological read of all of King's work.

This is only book two. You've got time to catch up if you want. 😉

Have a great week,

Nadia
