Writing + Cat
Hi!
It’s only been a few weeks since our last catch-up, but somehow I’ve got six(!) blog posts to tell you about. Buckle up.
Self-Hosting Follow-Up is, as it says on the tin, a follow-up to Getting Back into Self-Hosting. I’ve written and rewritten Solve the Problem You Have more times than I care to admit, and it was high time to just publish it. 2022: The Year of Habits in Review is a follow-up to 2022: The Year of Habits, my annual goal setting post. In 2023: No Goals I proudly declared that I’m keeping my 2023 goals private. Invisible Moments is a tribute to the late Ken Block—rest in peace. Manuals Matter is an ode to the car’s manual transmission.
I’ve spent so much time writing that I haven’t worked on anything related to Binary Widgets / Unread Tally in the meantime. The holidays are always a lot, so I don’t feel too bad, thought I do hope to resume soon.
Professionally I’ve made a tiny bit of a career change. I’ve been interested in trying out people management for a while now, so I took over as squad lead for one of the two squads at work. It’s already been a very interesting learning experience two weeks into it. I spend a lot more time in meetings, and am writing a lot more prose than code compared to before, but I'm enjoying it so far.
On a more personal level, today is the first anniversary of my engagement to Katie, hooray! It’s utterly wild how time flies.
And with that, I’ll leave you be. Thanks for reading!
—Nik
