Personal Updates + PyBeach News + Blog Posts Galore + Dog Tax
Hello, friends!
I bet you forgot you’re subscribed to this newsletter—or “newsletter”. I feel like I’ve very much owned up to my promise of “infrequent”. You’re welcome.
Personal Updates
Since it’s been a whopping year and eight months, you may be expecting all sorts of wild updates now, and I’d like you to tone down those expectations right away, before anyone gets hurt. The Now page on my site gets high level updates at some sort of reasonable frequency, but here’s a brief summary, in no particular order:
- Katie’s health is largely unchanged.
- I started working at Reach Security. Don’t worry, I don’t do the security part.
- Artemis passed away after eighteen months in our care.
- I got a tattoo.
- I got a rowing machine and obviously think everyone else should too.
PyBeach 2025
Believe it or not, PyBeach is actually happening this year, though no thanks to me. Other amazing folks really stepped up and it’s exciting to see it live on. It’s on September 27th and you should totally attend—tickets are on sale here!
Blogging (with Blaugust)
I unintentionally took a mega long break from blogging, nearly eleven months. Life™ was a lot and finding time for writing just wasn’t a priority. A few days before the end of July I discovered Blaugust, a month-long “festival of blogging”, with the original goal being a post every day for the entire month of August. It originated in the indie gaming community, and you can read a bit more about it here and here. I’m doing great so far with a perfect 5/5 score, and we’ll see how far that goes.
For convenience, all posts since the last time I newslettered:
- Goals for 2024
- Recalibrating Goals for 2024
- Calendar.app Light Mode
- Ten Years
- Blaugust 2025: Intro
- Blaugust 2025: Preparation
- Blaugust 2025: Some PyCon US 2025 Talks
- Blaugust 2025: Goals
- Blaugust 2025: Three Affordable Everyday Lifechangers
Until Next Time
I think that’s all I have for now. Really, thinking about where it makes sense to promote my Blaugust effort reminded me that I have this newsletter, so I’ve already exceeded expectations.
Thanks for reading!
