Three Thursday Things 01

A trio of delights from the past week

Inspired by my friend Jeff’s fantastic lists of five things, I offer you Three Thursday Things, a weekly installment of what has delighted me during the previous seven days. It’s part gratitude practice, part accountability for me—I say I want to write regularly. Surely I can make a list of three things once a week, right?

#1 The Poeta app

My therapist suggested I add some new, easy-to-do self-care activities to my routine. I opted to peruse the wide selection of apps available for iOS. I figured I’d find some habit trackers, meditation apps, and productivity timers, and I did. But I also found Poeta, an app that offers you a poem a day. Available for iPhone and iPad (and Android, but I haven’t tried it on a device), the premise is simple: enrich your life by reading and/or listening to a poem every day. I’ve been using it for 6 days and it’s the easiest to-do to cross off my list, giving me an easy win at the beginning of the day.

#2 Angel Olsen’s new EP of 1980s Covers

Worn from the 17 months, 12 days (but who’s counting?) of COVID-19 in the U.S., we could all use a blast from the carefree (not really) 1980s. Angel Olsen’s EP Aisles has answered the call, and I am here for it. The whole album is rad, but “Safety Dance” and “Gloria” are my faves.

#3 Jones Pineapple Cream Soda

It’s just delicious and delightful, especially on a humid Tampa evening. It’s also made with real sugar, not high-fructose corn syrup. (The dog below is not one of my dogs.)

That’s all, folks! What were you delighted by this week?
