Regenerative farming, ground search tech, and decolonizing stat. holidays

Boozhoo News River readers,
This week, we share stories of self-determination through technology in several Indigenous communities around the world:
- Switching farming practices to regenerative methods, providing fresh produce for tribal members and neighbours in northeast Kansas
- New Indigenous-owned company in Saskatchewan specializes in ground searches for unmarked graves from the Indian Residential School system
- Indigenous-led app blends traditional storytelling of Ngalia Western Desert Aboriginal People (Australia) with digital technology
Promoting Inclusivity Through Stat. Holiday Flexibility
This past Monday was a day off for many Canadians, but at Animikii it was a reminder of how we can dismantle colonial legacies through our work at Animikii.
Our CEO Jeff Ward's has long refused to celebrate Victoria Day – instead taking a day off around the summer solstice.
Realizing that all statutory holidays provide an opportunity for an act of decolonization, our team developed a policy that adheres to labour laws in all provinces.
Now, we have a policy that supports Indigenous and other global cultural worldviews and celebrates diversity by allowing team members freedom to choose when and how to use their paid holidays.
Learn more by reading our full policy.
We’re grateful to have our headquarters on traditional territory of the Lək̓ʷəŋən (Lkwungen, Songhees and Esquimalt) Peoples of the Coast Salish Nation.
