New Indigenous stock image collection

Boozhoo News River readers,
Here’s the news you may have missed in the world of Indigenous tech.
Amplifying Indigenous Representation Online
Ever notice there aren’t many options to choose from when you are looking for stock photos featuring Indigenous people?
Thankfully, is now changing. The Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA) released its free-to-use Indigenous stock photo library in June with the intention of honouring Indigenous entrepreneurship and addressing the existing representation gap in stock images.
These photos, captured by Kanyen’kehá:ka photographer Shelby Lisk, are shot on location at three Indigenous-owned businesses in the Ottawa area: ADAAWE (a co-working and community hub), Beandigen Cafe (a popular local coffee spot), and Mādahòkì Farm (an Indigenous experience and events space).
Mādahòkì Farm is also one of a few Canadian ranches conserving Ojibwe horses – the traditional companions to Anishinaabe communities around the Great Lakes.
We’re grateful to have our headquarters on traditional territory of the Lək̓ʷəŋən (Lkwungen, Songhees and Esquimalt) Peoples of the Coast Salish Nation.
