International Day of World Indigenous Peoples

Boozhoo News River readers,
Today is the International Day of World Indigenous Peoples, marking the inaugural session of the United Nations Working Group on Indigenous Populations in 1982.
Why this matters: The purpose of this day is to recognize the rights of hundreds of millions of Indigenous people living around the world, with this year’s focus being “Indigenous Youth as agents of change for self-determination.”
As the UN mentions on its website, Indigenous youth are harnessing cutting-edge technologies and developing news skills to solve problems in their communities and beyond.
In addition, this article from Mongabay discusses why Indigenous conservation is tied to the recognition of Indigenous Peoples by discussing recent studies in the field.
So keep tuning into the News River for the latest news in Indigenous tech – especially since you won’t be seeing these stories on Facebook anymore.
