Digital Sovereignty and Diversity at Collision

Aaniin News River readers!
This week members of the Animikii team have landed in Toronto for Collision! This tech-focused conference brings thousands together to talk about all things technology and beyond. Our CEO Jeff Ward was invited to speak on two panels covering Indigenous Digital Sovereignty and Diversity in the Workplace.
Supporting Indigenous Digital Sovereignty
Jeff was joined by Sheila North, Alika Lafontaine and Donna Sound for this standing room only discussion about Indigenous Digital Sovereignty. Centered on the critical issue of protecting the digital sovereignty of Indigenous communities, they explored the challenges and opportunities of upholding the right to privacy and self-determination online, and discussed strategies for empowering marginalized communities.
Less talk, more tools for an inclusive workforce
This afternoon Jeff was back on stage at Collision! Today, he sat down with Mandy Price, Rob Smith, and Paul Barker to dive into some of the tools employers can use to create total inclusion and foster diversity in the workplace.
Speaking of diversity and inclusion, Taika Waititi recently addressed both issues, and reconciliation, in his keynote speech for The Hollywood Reporter’s ‘Raising Our Voices’ luncheon.
“I don’t want to see one token Polynesian character in your show. That’s just weird. [...] What I want to see is a fully Polynesian controlled, Polynesian story, that’s written by and show run by - when we make our things, don’t give us a white show-runner to tell us the rules and tell us how to do things.” - Taika Waititi
Here’s a look at the impact of diversity in the workplace and tech industry ecosystem:
