Climate justice needs IDS-backed technology

Web Version

Boozhoo News River readers,

Here’s the news you may have missed while you were carving pumpkins or planning the perfect costume last week.

Animikii’s Jeff Ward recently published an article with MIT Solve on why climate justice needs Indigenous technology backed with data sovereignty.

Jeff visited the MIT Solve Challenge finals in New York City recently to serve as a judge for the Indigenous Communities Fellowship.

The event showcased Indigenous innovators using  traditional knowledge and technology to meet the social, environmental, and economic goals of their communities.

To see what this looks like in practice, check out this article on past winner Danielle Boyer, the Founder and CEO of tech education non-profit The STEAM Connection, which addresses the ongoing marginalization, lack of representation, cultural barriers, and limited resources affecting Indigenous students.

Supporting Indigenous Small Businesses in Victoria

Animikii was honoured to participate in the Victoria Native Friendship Centre - VNFC Small Business Pledge this past National Day for Truth & Reconciliation. The Centre plays an essential role in providing over 75 programs to address unique challenges faced by the urban Indigenous community.

We've made a financial donation to support this charitable non-profit, and we encourage other organizations and individuals to contribute to this impactful cause. Your support can make a real difference in expanding crucial community services like safe housing, mental health resources, and cultural programs.
