Celebrating Indigenous Women in Tech this International Women’s Day

Even though International Women’s Day is still two days away, we couldn’t wait to look back on the past year of the newsletter and share some of the inspiring stories of women from around the world.

At the bottom of this email, learn about Indigenous women featured on the News River in recent months doing cool things like astronautics, video game design, entrepreneurship, a language revitalization.

Showcasing Indigenous Women in Tech Here's a list of leaders in technology who have been making moves in their respective fields.

Sunshine Tenasco Founder of Pow Wow Pitch, and co-founder (along with Cheekbone Beauty founder Jenn Harper) of the SOAR grassroots entrepreneurship initiative, Sunshine has been keeping ever busy in the social entrepreneurship space.

Danielle Forward & Betsy Fore: Cofounders of Natives Rising Natives Rising is a tech career accelerator provides mentorship, community, and networking opportunities to Indigenous tech professionals. The goal: stronger representation in the tech industry, especially for women. Check out Danielle's  Bobbie Racette The past year has been another big one for Bobbie, founder and CEO of Virtual Gurus, who won awards and shared her message of resilience and impact-driven entrepreneurship.

Lisa Mae Brunson Founder and chief visionary of non-profit Wonder Women Tech Lisa Mae Brunson felt her interests and science and technology weren’t nurtured as a person of colour. Now, her organization offers coding classes, hackathons, and other opportunities to marginalized groups in STEAM industries.

Checking In With MIT Solve

Animikii CEO Jeff Ward moderated a panel on relationship-building, partnerships, and grant-making in Indigenous communities at the Indigenous Innovators Summit in Tucson, Arizona last week.

The MIT Solve Indigenous Communities Fellowship is receiving applications until April 18th. 

Need some inspiration? Check out 2023’s finalists, a group made up almost entirely of women, featuring solutions like digital banking, “Indigeponics”, and a virtual marketplace for entrepreneurs.
