Bringing the herring home, and the buffalo too

Hey News River readers,
We are happy to share several interesting news stories this week, especially if you are interested in reintroducing native species or using drones (and other things that fly, buzz, and glide) to decolonize the sky.
Enjoy this curated selection of empowering Indigenous news.
Here's what else you may have missed in Indigenous news this week:
Several bison reintroduction programs are currently in progress across North America. One project in Banff National Park is showing promise, while another on the Blackfeet Reservation in Montana is seeing complications due to the criss-crossing borders of neighbouring national parks and private property.
The Narwhal published several insightful pieces about the logging of culturally important trees, an Indigenous guardian program on Manitoba's Seal River watershed, and an update on Wet'suwet'en land defenders one year after RCMP raids.
A "digital garden" will serve as a digital repository of studies done "with" Indigenous communities, not simply "on" them.
We’re grateful to have our headquarters on traditional territory of the Lək̓ʷəŋən (Lkwungen, Songhees and Esquimalt) Peoples of the Coast Salish Nation.
