First Episode Just Dropped

We've Launched!

To our twelve lovely newsletter subscribers,

Today we released the first episode of New Rust: A Pittsburgh Podcast.

About a year ago today, I stood in front of Pittsburgh's city council. I told them that my love for Pittsburgh grew like a tree taking root. I spoke of my deep love for this city, and told them that if they passed additional protections for the LGBTQ+ community, I would stay here and do everything I could to make Pittsburgh welcoming and prosperous for all.

New Rust is me making good on that promise. And I've been overjoyed to have my good friend, Gerra Bosco, join as my musical co-host. Thanks to them, this podcast won't just tell the stories of the Pittsburgh community: every episode will include a music segment, 41Tunes, showcasing a song from a local band.

Local stories. Local sponsors. Local music. We're creating a platform for the voices of our community. We won't wait until the world realizes Pittsburgh has had a renaissance. We'll be here, singing it from the rooftops.

It's been a bumpy start, and we've novices learning new things. We hope you'll stick with us on this journey, knowing every episode we'll get just a little bit better.

I want to take a moment to thank everyone who has helped us reach this milestone, especially Magic Hour Creative, Louise Costikyan, Eleanor Lang, and Max Oddi.

Our first episode delves into the story of local eldritch crochet artist, Chris Pluto. Chris has been crocheting for over 30 years, but that just scratches the surface -- they worked at Mr. Rodgers favorite record shop and ran a sadly defunct bookstore, Rickert & Beagle, co-owned with author of The Last Unicorn, Peter Beagle. Thanks to Chris for being our very first guest!

Love and Pierogies, Vic Costik
