That Famous Chinese Theater in LA?

LA screening, a note from our PA, and a personal update.

Vintage postcard of the famous Chinese Theater in Hollywood, California
It’s now TCL Chinese Theater, but you know the place.

We’re screening there. Elvis of the Yukon made the screening list for the Silicon Beach Film Festival. You can catch our movie on September 12th at 7:30 PM. There’s more about the film festival here. It’s pretty fun to think about our work on the silver screen at such a classic Hollywood venue.

Question I’m asking myself: Do I fly to LA for the night to see a movie? One I’ve seen a million times?

Everyone we worked with on Elvis of the Yukon was a freaking delight and that includes our PA, Kimmy Komrska. She’s bringing her own film into the world and if you’re into punk blasphemy (who isn’t, I ask you?), this is for you. Here’s where you can learn more about her project.

Amy and I are still dropping weekly episodes of CANNED: Conversations about Getting Fired. The latest, with an absolute firecracker of a human, is here. I’m always looking for new folks to talk with and I remain keen to find someone in HR who is willing to dish some dirt anonymously. I’m excited about next week’s drop too — I talked with an employment lawyer about what to do when you get canned.

Please share far and wide and subscribe where you get your podcasts.

On a personal note, I took a job managing the oral history program for the Washington State Jewish Historical Society. It’s a difficult time to work for a Jewish-centric organization, people will deny us grief, empathy, and diversity of opinion (not you, you’d never). But the potential to build a digital museum that reflects the complexity of Jewish identity through audio storytelling was just too much to pass up.

And it’s the complexity of human experience that makes us want to make art, right? I met an Elvis impersonator at a Skagway laundromat and here we are.

Support art, make weird things, listen to stories, okay?

Yours in gratitude, as always.
