PNW Indie Nominations
Five new nominations, FIVE, including one for our makeup artist.
I was at a party yesterday afternoon where I went on and on and on about the experience of making a film. It’s not entirely my fault, my friend asked me if I was happy with the experience.
“Are you kidding, it was like being shot out of a cannon! I basically got to go to film school and for graduation, I got to screen my movie in Manhattan. Are. You. Kidding?”
Ahem, so yes. It was a good experience. Anyway, one of the things I mentioned to the very indulgent people at the table was a particular moment on day three. I was watching in one of the monitors. Liz was in this halo of light, she was absolutely glowing, while Andrew looked tired and sallow. “He looks tired,” I thought, “gosh, I hope… OH. WAIT A MINUTE. THAT IS INTENTIONAL.”
If you watch costume dramas or films that take place in specific eras, you notice how people are dressed; I still think about the eyeglasses in Oppenheimer. Sci-fi has loads of makeup, and I guess gore, but I don’t watch gore/horror. With films like ours, a present day story with seemingly little need for things like hair and makeup, you don’t key into that.

But that day, I noticed this detail that added so much to the vibe. I was delighted to see that Carrie, our hair and makeup artist, made this recent round of nominations. Her work was invisible — as it really should be — until it wasn’t. What magic.
We were nominated in five of the twelve categories for this film festival. We got those five nominations from a pool of 387 films. I don’t know how many total submissions there were. More film festivals should publish their submission numbers, dammit. This crew wants to know.
In addition to Carrie’s nomination, we got shortlisted for producer (Amy), writing (me), score (Tony), and cinematography (Mike). That’s a pretty nice sweep. On the film festival circuit, it really is nice to just be nominated.
There’s a voting component next which, candidly, is weird. They don’t give us the other films, so how I’m (you’re) supposed to decide between five actors I don’t know and can’t watch, well, you’ve got me. They name the people, not the film, too, so if I search for them and find they’ve worked on more than one project… welp.
Vote for our crew anyway, wouldja? Your call on the other categories. (This is weird. I’ll say it again.)

Remind me to tell you about how he propped 75k worth of gear out the sunroof of my car. “Just drive,” he said, “Try to stay off the brake.” Uh huh. Sure.
Go here to vote. The PNW Indie Awards, along with the screenings, take place in September in Renton, Wa, and we’d like to be in the theater with you.
