Notes from NYC #2
If you’re not on social media, first GOOD FOR YOU, do everything you can to keep it that way. Also, if you’re not on social, you might have missed the big news.
Elvis of the Yukon is nominated for best drama short.
There’s a clip reel and full listing on the NY Cinefest site.
I was out in New Jersey visiting my cousin; Amy and Rocco were at the festival and saw the reel in real time. I’m back in Manhattan now and I may or may not have… Who am I kidding, I absolutely did write my imaginary acceptance speech in my head on train back to Manhattan.
My cousin works at Princeton University, she coordinates an arts alumni program and works with a lot of successful folks. That’s how I ended up in a Princeton bakery hearing “There are a lot of ways to go to film school and they way you did it is a really good one. Congrats on hitting it out of the park on your first try!” from Winnie Holzman.
Everything feels wildly auspicious. On my way to the train, I walked pass a marker outside the Macy’s building — it claims that this was where Edison first projected moving pictures. Nope, a quick fact check reveals that not to be so. It makes it no less grand, no less worth taking a minute to feel like we’re now part of the great creative river of film.
If you need me, I’ll be practicing my speech. It may or may not be imaginary. We’ll know in a few days — though it already feels like we won.
