Welcome to Nice Jewish Words & Comics!
Hey, Kids! It’s Nice Jewish Words & Comics!, the latest installment from Neil Kleid's bi-monthly newsletter with updates and info about his latest projects!
Hello! Neil Kleid here, comic book writer and graphic novelist, and welcome to the first, short edition of my brand-new newsletter, Nice Jewish Words & Comics.
With the downfall of TwitterX, and the further disparity of various social media channels, I thought it might be the right time to get a semi-regular newsletter up and running for friends, family and supporters of my comics, books and design efforts so those who are interested can keep up with what’s happening in terms of all things Kleid. The Kleiderverse, as it were.
(Yes. There Will be Puns.)
If you’ve signed up for this thing—welcome. If you haven’t, please feel free to Unsubscribe at the bottom of the email and accept my humble apologies. If I’ve added you to this without your asking, well, either we’re related, close enough to have shared a meal or drink, or have expressed interest in my work one way or another. Getting a newsletter up and running isn’t easy, so I made a few assumptions—if I assumed poorly, well, you know what they say about all of that. Feel free to unsubscribe and again, sorry.
BUT for those of you planning to stick around…here’s what to expect.
I plan to send a post out twice a month, if possible, catching folks up on the latest news as regards my upcoming books and comics, behind-the-scenes facts about past work, art teases and work-in-progress, and maybe even some media and food that I’m currently consuming (books, barbecue and the boob tube!)
I’ll also serialize some of my old comics, for those into that sort of thing, and share covers, pages and promotion from stuff coming out…like Nice Jewish Boys, my upcoming Jewish suburban crime comic with John Broglia, Ellie Wright and Sarah Litt, the first issue which is out from Comixology Originals on November 7th.
See? Like that. We’ll talk more about Nice Jewish Boys in an upcoming newsletter. For now, if you want to learn more about the comic, check out this preview at Comic Book Resources.
And that’s basically the gambit. News, essays, behind-the-scenes stuff, art, comics from me and my co-authors, the odd musing on graphic and UX design, Star Wars, what I’m reading / watching / eating, book and comic recommendation, and a healthy load of writing about Jewish life, and an eye into the life of a Jewish Dad.
Also, some Jewish guilt. Especially for you folks who are unsubscribing. Why leave? I’m utterly charming. And you folks staying…why not tell a friend, who will tell a friend? Again, it’s hard to build a following for these things, and I’d appreciate any help recommending this to your nearest and dearest (or even semi-adjacent.)
Thanks for being here. Thanks for supporting me and my work. Let’s see how this goes, shall we?
Back with more soon.
What Neil’s Watching Now
Just a quick note for those of you who aren’t watching, but I’m several episodes into the second season of Our Flag Means Death, the HBOMax show about pirates, and it is as wonderful, wry and comforting as the first. Taika Waititi and Rhys Darby star as Blackbeard and Stede Bonnet, Gentleman Pirate, and they are wonderful and compelling as ever—as is their on again, off again relationship. And Leslie Jones is, as always, hilarious. A fantastic ensemble and amazing production values, the season’s not too far in to catch up and give it a whirl.
Neil’s is also watching:
Loki, Season 2. Ke Huy Quen? You are a delight.
The Morning Show, Season 2. I’m kind of hate-watching this one, to be honest.
Entourage re-watch. Don’t you judge me.
That’s it for today, dear friends. Stay safe out there.
—Neil
