Welcome to the Neighbourhoodie Newsletter

Welcome to the third edition of Neighbourhoodie’s Newsletter. We are happy to send you news and updates on the technologies we work with and for: Apache CouchDB™, JavaScript, Offline First software development.

News from Neighbourhoodie:

Structured Query Server

Structured Query Server (SQS) is an SQL query engine for CouchDB, letting you use complex SQL SELECT statements to extract information from a CouchDB database with extreme flexibility. Learn more about it by reading our latest blog post.

We are happy to invite you to our Structured Query Server demo on March 13, 2024, 5pm CET to show you all the things you can do with SQS and to give you the chance to ask questions to our developers.

Please register at our vi.to hub to join the demo

Sync Express

Soon we will release the next CouchDB tool. Sync Express is a continuous CouchDB replicator for huge amounts of databases. It continuously replicates all of the databases on one CouchDB instance (the source) to another instance (the target). It is designed to work well for systems with large numbers of databases, for example those using a database-per-user or per-time-period structure.

News from Apache CouchDB™

Releases

We are participating in the Open Source project and helping to get new releases ready to download. Please find information on the latest releases here.

The current version of Apache CouchDB is 3.3.3.

Release Notes highlights:

  • Fix for CVE-2023-45725. Details here. We recommend all CouchDB users upgrade.
  • Require authentication for the _replicate endpoint. This is a continuation of the 3.x “closed-by-default” security policy.
  • Fix multipart parser “attachment longer than expected” error. Previously there was a small chance attachments were not replicated.
  • Various bug fixes related to shard splitting, purging, and replication.

Check the Apache CouchDB blog for more information.

Development — What comes next

If you would like to have an update on the CouchDB project, you can listen to Jan Lehnardt’s talk from one of our CouchDB Meetups. You can find the recording here.

  • The previously teased Nouveau, the new Lucene-based and very modernised full-text search solution for CouchDB is going to make a first appearance as a beta feature in the upcoming 3.4.0 release.

Event Announcements

  • Public SQS demo: Our developers are happy to present you our latest CouchDB tooling. Please respond to this email with our name and email address if you would like to join the demo.

Neighbourhoodie’s work

During the last years we have worked with interesting customers. It was not only a pleasure to work with the people involved, but also to help develop the projects. We have written down the specifications of three of our projects in our case studies.
