Forest Garden Livestream

Wednesday 14th April, 10am BST

1,000 Acre Forest Garden

The Climate Emergency is happening. We need system change to burn less stuff and find better ways to live, for us and all other life on earth.

Forest gardens are one small aspect of this better way to live, where edible crops are grown with nature, an edible ecosystem that provides habitat and food for every living thing, not just monocultures for humans.

So, I want to imagine how we can tackle both the effects and the causes of climate change at a local level. Community forest gardens are one way, How about every town has a 1,000 Acre Forest Garden as another way? Fruit and nut trees, planted and managed as a wildlife reserve initially, coming in to their own in about 20 years time, just when they’re needed?

As always, an informal Zoom chat after the livestream at 10.30am, all welcome.

Garden Wild Spreadsheet

The more I learn about UK native plants, the more I see the overlap with forest gardens. Pretty much every single UK wild flower I’ve come across so far in the Biological Records Centre’s Plant Atlas is also in the amazing Plants For A Future (the only exception has been Potentilla sterilis, Barren Strawberry).

So, I continue to work slowly on the Garden Wild Flower Gallery project. Now that the funding application is in I am prototyping different image galleries. And waiting. A corollary project is the Garden Wild Spreadsheet, listing UK native wild flowers, which is akin to the Forest Garden Spreadsheet but for UK wild flowers.

Thank you Patreon Mary!

I just wanted to say thank you so much to Mary, my latest Patreon. I have a Patreon page over at patreon.com/backyardforest, where you can support the livestream or my other work, which seems to consiste of mostly galleries and spreadsheets at the moment!

A big thank you also to Julie, Susan, Chris and Lynn. And also to everyone on the Backyard Forest Telegram group.
