The WeirdNet and Frog Corrals
Hey Folks,
It's been a weird week, so let's celebrate with even MORE weirdness! Because... why not?
From The WeirdNet
I've been thinking a lot about the 'weird' internet and its warm resurgence into the limelight. It's clear that it never truly went away, it was just drowned out by the social media giants. I'm determined to uncover more of these odd gems both old and new. We even started a Slack channel at Viget to celebrate the #weird-internet
.
Here are some of the gems we've found recently:
- Improbable Island is a text-based browser game that's been running since 2008. It's incredibly cheeky and irreverent.
- Novena by Cecile Richard is a very special little poem/game that's a wonder exploration of the medium.
- Rising Up is a weird little violent game (blood/violence warning)
- Infinite Craft is a little browser alchemy game
- ASCII Theater, steam movies... from the terminal...?
- Pointer pointer - self-explanatory (you'll see).
- A wild collection of old robots
- The Forest is almost like a version of StumbleUpon, but with completely random things in there.
- Pong Wars
Interesting Web Bits
- Cute little game made in Phaser about corralling frogs 🐸
- Zed goes open source. A lot of people seem excited about it. I'm curious about the 'multiplayer' aspect, but I'm pretty firmly entrenched in NeoVim...
- Sparkbox compares different web animations frameworks and techniques. It's interesting to see the same pattern translated across so many targets.
