Techo Kaigi and Stick-Figure Fights
Hey friends,
I tried to hide the Halloween candy from myself. Joke’s on me. I know all my hiding spots.
Thinking Too Hard 🤔
As part of my weekly routine, I wade through dozens of newsletters and personal websites. Every so often I find something that makes me go, 'whaaaaAAAA?!'
That's what happened to me last week with vrk loves paper, a stationary/zine creation newsletter.
vrk casually mentions the term: 'techo kaigi' which sent me down a Google spiral. Turns out that 'techo kaigi' is a Japanese term (literally 'planner meeting') for a very specific self-meeting in which you review your planners, journals, and notebooks, review how well it worked for you, and plan changes for the coming year. I LOVE that there's a very specific term for this very specific thing! I am a huge fan of analog planning and I love seeing what others are doing with their systems. There's obviously joyful use of some of these 'life books', filled with doodles, washi tape, and stickers. My notebooks and planners are often very bland, utilitarian objects, but how much more fun would using them be if they were intrinsically joyful objects?
Interesting Web Bits 🍜
Web Stuff
- Adrian makes a good point that Shopify isn't setting a good example for small businesses getting slapped with ADA lawsuits. Accessibility is important, y'all....
- Mattias Ott summarizes my same feelings about the new Affinity.
Other Stuff
- I may make a career of the web, but I started in print. If print's not dead, who's keeping it alive? is a nice overview of where things are and where they might go for print.
- Remember those stick figure fight scenes? The internet remembers them too... along with things I never knew back then!
- These non-digital EV convertibles LOOK fun, but I'm afraid to even consider what the price will be. 🫣
