If you run git branch in your repos, how many dead branches pop up? Branches that have long since been merged into main but are just ... hanging around. Languishing on your hard drive.

Fortunately there's a very easy way to tidy up with this one-line script as a little bit of Git arboriculture:

git fetch -p && git branch --format '%(refname:short) %(upstream:track)' | awk '$2=="[gone]" {print $1}' | xargs -r git branch -D

And because I firmly beleive you should never paste things into your terminal that you don't understand, you can head on over to my recent post for a breakdown explanation of what's going on in there.

Interesting Web Bits 🍿

Web Stuff:

• Oxfmt is looking pretty good these days. I do not miss arguing over whitespace...
• Lea Verou show us how we can use external dependency maps today, and if you're not sure what that means, you can read her original post of how web dependencies are broken.
• For better XSS protection, setHTML() will eventually ship and reduce the need for innerHTML()
• 11ty is now Build Awesome... a name that I don't find particularly awesome but 🤷.

Other Stuff:

• "The trick is not to play zero sum games. This is what I have been saying the whole time. Go create value for others and don’t worry about the returns."
• An interesting look at what science-fiction is becoming in our literary culture. Dying? Changing? Will it come back as something else? Either way the future has always been weird.
• Have you ever thought of churning butter while you run? Burn AND generate calories at the same time. Multi-tasking perfected...

Weird, Watch, and Play:

• 👽 Listen to a bubble-sorted version of the famous Amen Break drum solo. (You may not know the name, but I guarantee you've heard it before).
• 👽 (Flashing warning) Cache Monet explores "the collisions that occur between two randomly generated arrays" (while set to music... which is not random). Hard to say what's being communicated here... but it's certainly an experience artistic expression.
• 👽 Have a specific stain on a specfic fabric? The internet has got you.
