book review for your consideration
Hello friends - I'm being uncharacteristically brief today, just passing along a link to something I think you should read: https://spectrejournal.com/on-economic-compulsion/ It's a collaboration between the inimitable Rob Hunter and myself, the indivisible Nate Holdren, reviewing a recent book by the inevitable Werner Bonefeld.
I'll add that I spent a few minutes trying to make a reference to Madness's "One Step Beyond" here but every version was either stupid or incomprehensible or both, so I scrapped it. I'm not saying that protecting you from my terrible sense of humor counts as heroism but I have written a strongly worded letter to Congress making the case that I have here displayed conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity above and beyond the call of duty. I assure you that if they grant me the medal - as we can all agree they ought - you'll be the third to know. In the meantime, I share with you only that in the process of failing to make a Madness joke I did learn that the intro to "One Step Beyond" is partly taken from this Prince Buster tune which I hadn't heard before: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1HR3AxPQW3s If you don't know it already, you should check it out, it's the heavy heavy monster sound. One of these years if I have my druthers I'm going to take a good long while and do nothing but nerd out about roots reggae and two tone. To be clear, I do not expect I shall have my druthers. In the worlds of, I feel, Franz Kafka "there's an infinite amount of druthers in the universe, but not for us. Just keep on trucking, we've got a long way to go, and a short time to get there."
