The Garden of Forking Paths

Solo Exhibition at Sabrina Amrani Gallery, Madrid
Exhibition Dates: May 17 - July 5, 2025
More Info: Sabrina Amrani Gallery

Sabrina Amrani is pleased to present The Garden of Forking Paths, the second solo exhibition of Timo Nasseri at the gallery.

Borrowing the title from the eponymous short story by Jorge Luis Borges, this exhibition delves into the ideas surrounding the Persian garden, celebrated for its rich cultural and symbolic heritage. These gardens serve as a lasting expression of cosmology, architecture, and sanctuary —recurring themes in Nasseri's artistic practice. Rooted in ancient traditions, Persian gardens embody the belief in a harmonious and balanced universe. Their traditional four-part design represents the four corners of the world and the essential elements of nature: earth, water, fire, and air. Each section of the garden is designed with purpose, resonating with divine order and the belief that nature is a representation of celestial harmony. The careful arrangement of its elements illustrates how humans can create spaces that reflect the cosmos on their own scale.

Nasseri's work resonates with these ancient principles. Each element of the exhibition has been chosen with meticulous care, evoking a sense of peace and tranquility while inviting viewers to embark on a personal journey of introspection and connection with their inner selves. Designed as both a Persian garden and a labyrinth, the exhibition is conceived as a journey of self-discovery.

The exhibition unfolds within a sanctuary inside the gallery, guiding visitors through a transformative experience, where the four distinct doors leading to the partitions of the exhibition symbolize thresholds of understanding. By evoking Borges, Nasseri explores themes of infinity, identity, and interconnectedness, weaving a complex narrative that intertwines visual art with philosophical inquiry.

Through this diverse body of work, Timo Nasseri encourages us to explore the intricate connections between nature, the self, and the cosmos, ultimately inviting a deeper understanding of our place in the universe.

Join me in Hamburg for the group exhibition From the Cosmos to the Commons, part of the five-year program curated by City Curator Joanna Warsza. This exhibition marks the beginning of a series exploring the five elements—Cosmos, Fire, Air, Earth, and Water. My contribution, “Unknown Letter I-IV”, is a public art installation that reflects on our collective relationship with the cosmos, letter, knowledge and the signals that connect us across time and space.

Between Stars and Signals

Group Exhibition at Kunsthaus Hamburg
Opening: June 20, 2025
Exhibition Dates: June 20 - August 17, 2025

How do we navigate a world where our actions have planetary consequences? In our post-global era, we are not just Earth dwellers—we are geological agents, leaving lasting marks through our economic, ecological, and political choices.

The exhibition Between Stars and Signals explores these ideas, tracing a line from ancient star-based worldviews to planetary thinking and modern technologies like GPS. Featuring video, wall, and spatial installations, the show reflects on movement through space and time, and the complex relationships between humans, nature, and the cosmos.

Does digital transformation bring us closer to cosmic awareness—or further from the immediate experience of the world? The answer remains open.

And All That Is In Between

Last days

Group Exhibition at the Islamic Arts Biennale 2025, Jeddah
Exhibition Dates: January 25 - May 25, 2025
More Info: Islamic Arts Biennale 2025

I'm honoured to be part of the second edition of the Islamic Arts Biennale, held at the iconic Western Hajj Terminal in Jeddah.

»Echoes of the Skies«

Inspired by Farid ud-Din Attar’s 12th-century poem, my artwork explores the journey of self-discovery and spiritual awakening. The birds in the poem travel through seven symbolic valleys, representing stages of enlightenment, ultimately discovering divine unity.

In this piece, I blend Islamic architectural heritage with Attar’s allegory. The Muqarnas pattern forms the foundation for a flock of mirrored birds, symbolizing individual souls and collective consciousness on a quest for spiritual truth.

Viewed from below, the geometric pattern invites contemplation of divine order. From above, the fragmented mirrors create a celestial flock, reflecting the surrounding environment like pieces of a puzzle.

The sculpture balances tradition and modernity, with a contemporary exterior and a gilded traditional pattern inside. This visual contrast represents the timeless relationship between heritage and progress.

The gilded copula and the hanging Muqarnas, made of 1035 stainless steel mirrors, embody the interconnectedness of existence. Each mirror reflects both light and consciousness, offering a visual journey that invites introspection and enlightenment.

This expansive exhibition, running from January 25 to May 25, 2025, brings together over 500 historical artifacts and contemporary artworks from more than 30 international institutions.
