How do you say Treetops in Hebrew?
Travel to the north of Israel and you’ll find a tiny little oasis known as Amirim. I first discovered Amirim some years ago. It’s what’s called in Hebrew a moshav, which is a small, interconnected community somewhat akin to a kibbutz. What makes Amirim unique is its unique location overlooking the Sea of Galilee and the surrounding towns in the valley below.

Most people who stay in Amirim spend their nights in these little cabins known as a zimmer. I recall walking into our little zimmer overlooking the valley. There was freshly baked zucchini bread on the kitchen table and an outdoor hot tub on our little patio.
We spent the day hiking and exploring the area, eating at the little local bakeries and eateries, and walking through the little stores and stalls selling incredible Israeli handicrafts and wares. But the highlight, of course, was the nap.
Our zimmer, as I mentioned, had a great little patio overlooking the valley below. As my eyes began to get heavy, I could take in the sparkling waters of the Sea of Gallilee, and feel the profundity of the incredible skies, sea, and valley that surrounded me.
All I could hear was silence as I lost consciousness on that little patio overlooking the valley. I felt at peace in a land that so often is seen as anything but. I felt quietly at home that day. Home in my little zimmer in Amirim.
