Vintage Nap Reference
Throwback Tuesday
Having missed Bundy Sunday Funday this week, I thought I’d share a brief story that just might identify the “spark” that ultimately led to the birth of TND — HT to AKS for the killer quote I used as the title of this piece!
Let’s travel back in time, shall we? The year is 2010: most of the guys in the Buffett crew are not yet married. Hen and I have lots of hair. Evan, whose hairline has not moved an inch, is not yet a rabbi. I’m employed (gasp!) as a lawyer (double gasp!). Wild times.
Hen, one of the few of us with a kid, decides to show off and have another one — you may know him as the Middle. Eight days later, a group of us find ourselves together wearing suits in the morning in NYC. Songs are sung, smoked fish and scotch are consumed, and (I’m pretty sure) a covenant is respectfully upheld.
Fast forward a day, and we exchange emails describing the events of the previous day. Some highlights here — won’t say who said what:
swelling needs to go down before I can get xrayed
did you really interview someone?
I definitely, definitely do not remember that
Scotch scotch scotch
I went to school and passed out in the library for a little while
At some point I bumped my leg against a chair and it still hurts.
lunch is pretty blurry
Inexplicably, I can't really turn my head without severe pain
Long story short, i essentially learned the lesson that i'm a pretty capable drunk employee. Thats a bad bad lesson. really bad.
Probably my least productive "work day" of all time.
Fast forward 13.5 years, and we somehow we got to talking about this event last night. We agreed that at this point, those of us with real jobs would call in sick for the day and likely need a few days to recover — and yet back then, before we realized that we are, in fact, extremely vincible, we all just went about our work days.
But one thing that has not changed since back then — you guessed it:
Squeezed in a 2 hour nap yesterday...ooh rah
I came home at roughly 1130am, tried to help clean up, made more of a mess, went to sleep…at some point rolled off the bed…woke up at 8 pm?
A vintage nap reference, indeed!
Thanks for accompanying us along this trip down memory lane. Not entirely sure what’s my point here — such is the nature of Bundy Tuesday Funday!
