The Genius of Joe Walsh

The return (in earnest) of Bundy Sunday Funday!

You may be wondering why today’s post is coming out while most of our readers are likely sleeping. Well, I’ve developed a bit of insomnia this week, and before I give Scooter and Mr. King another chance to help me vanquish it as they did mere days ago, I figured I might as well share this post with you all, dear readers.

Given how I hogged the mic last week, I’ve given Hen the floor for as much of the week as he wants, while Evan rides Vespas across Italy —1 look forward to a forthcoming series re napping under the Tuscan sun! — with one caveat: I insisted on writing today’s post, in an effort to reorient us around Bundy Sunday Funday, following some chucklehead’s bucking the trend last Sunday.2

This Bundy Sunday Funday, I wanted to share a little wit and wisdom from guitarist, singer, songwriter, actor, improv comic, recovered hotel room thrasher, and latterday philosopher,3 Joe Walsh, with a quote from The History of the Eagles, a phenomenal 2013 documentary that I highly recommend you all watch.4

This resonates with me at the present juncture of my life, which Mr. Walsh describes perfectly when he talks about what feels like “random events smashing into each other.” Fortunately (?) for us all, one of those random events is TND — looking forward to seeing the “finely crafted novel” on the other side!

This is the closest I could find to a picture of Joe Walsh napping. Let’s assume here that he’s napping on his guitar with his eyes open — use your imagination, people!

Nappy Sunday, y’all!

1

Not only are we fond of naps — we’re also fond of scooters in all their forms! Maybe 2024 will be the year of To Scoot, Divine…?

2

It’s the lack of respect — that’s what hurts the most.

3

If you’re not sure what latterday means, please see previous treatment here.

I specifically recommend Part 1 for general awesomeness and Part 2 for general hilarity, including a strangely long segment where Don Henley talks about writing “Get Over It” from Hell Freezes Over.

Really, Alison Ellwood? That was the song you gave Henley like five minutes to discuss writing? Not “Desperado” or some better song? I suspect Henley insisted on including it.

HT to Bill Simmons for highlighting this and other hilarity in a 2013 piece for Grantland (RIP — too soon?).
