The Fortuitous Nap
Pop always used to say it’s better to be lucky than smart
A busy morning finally settled down about 11:45am. I checked the calendar to see what was next. Amazed, it looked like a clearing had emerged in a forest. A wide stretch of unmarked, clear, gray rectangles, from noon to late afternoon.
How could this be? I had noticed some activity in the email pop-ups, and saw some scheduling happening, but hadn’t realized that by luck or merit, a bunch of today’s meetings had moved. The question then became, what do with this gift of time?
I mean . . . I often write for a nap blog, so it wasn’t that complicated (and by often I mean, not often enough . . . sorry Matt. I’m on it).
With the foundational question answered, now the hard part:
Time?
More than 15 minutes, that’s for sure. 30 seems like a regular day. 45 is nice . . . but how rare is a 60? Let’s do 60.
Place?
Bed . . . a little too “sleepy.” Even I’m not prepared to go for a sleep today. Big couch? Very enticing. But I like little couch for this surprise.
Aids?
A meditation will keep me up for nearly the entirety, but will also help me sleep for longer since it’ll calm the brain while it’s on. Let’s do a 20 minute mediation.
Pants?
With due respect to Bomber and WC, staying on. Plus a blanket. It’s cold.
Result?
Tailed off near the end of the meditation, woke to the alarm, not a minute before. Refreshed and ready to take on the afternoon.
