Napping...Amalfi Style
Snoozing by the seashore
“Where did dad go?” That’s often how it begins. You know, the nap. It’s the same whether it’s at our local beach here in Connecticut or at one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, in Positano, Italy.
The third leg of our Italy adventure took us to the Amalfi Coast. It is truly one of the most spectacular areas I’ve ever been - the massive cliffs overlooking the ocean lined with little towns and colorful houses that reflect off the water.
One morning we took the ferry boat from Sorrento to Positano, which is a small town with rocky beaches and incredible views of both the cliffs and the ocean. They charged us a lot of money for an umbrella and beach chair, but for the napping man, it’s Euros well spent.
I think I mentioned yesterday the entire continent of Europe was (and probably still is) going through an immense heatwave. By the time we got to our beach chair all we want to do was jump into the ocean and never leave.
That was certainly my wife and kids’ strategy. They love the water. I mean, love it. I, on the other hand, am more of a land lubber, but even I that day jumped into the water.
But then then the napping angels called from high above the Amalfi cliffs. Quietly I walked the rocky beach and settled into that rental beach chair. “Where did dad go?” I think we all know. Ciao.
