Napping in Public
Dance recital nap
We hope you enjoyed last Friday’s post from our good friend and well-respected man about town, Barry McBride. As we turn the page on another week of TNDdom, we wanted to touch on a topic that we’ve discussed in passing but never specifically addressed…until now.
The last few days have been particularly busy. I was out late seeing live music on Thursday, and we’ve had the pleasure of hosting dear friends from out of town since Friday. Where I come from, friendship is a drink best served neat and repeatedly, so to say that my recently re-established exercise/diet/sleep regime hasn’t been at its most solid…well, that’s all I have to say about that.
Which brings us to Saturday morning, the day of my older daughter’s dance recital. Not sure if you’ve ever been to a kids’ dance recital, but it’s a half-day-long extravaganza that features your child in multiple single-serving costumes for a total of about 7 minutes strategically spaced throughout the program such that you can neither arrive late nor leave early.
Suffice to say, I was a captive audience and a tired one at that. What to do? The answer, of course, was to ask the Mrs. to wake me up before our daughter’s next on-stage moment. The TAENR record reflects that the first (and not last) such episode ended around 12:17pm. It was the perfect crime, definitely hirune (昼寝) and arguably inemuri (居眠り)!
Just thinking about it makes me wistful...
