Napping in Movies/TV 1
Bunk Moreland is not a good guy
My exercise game has not been the strongest of late, to the point that my 7-year old recently told my wife that I hate exercising. While I’d like to tell you it’s more nuanced than that, I only have 250 words and so will say that she’s not entirely wrong. But I’ve revamped my regime of late and have been logging hours on the Peloton, structuring my own 90-minute low-intensity workouts, rather than let Emma, Olivia, or Denis guide me.
On these longer workouts, I’ve taken to watching something on my iPad, and most recently, that “something” has been HBO’s The Wire. And in Season 3, Episode 7 (“Back Burners”), I saw something I can only describe as appalling.
At 37:55, we see Detective Michael Crutchfield napping in his chair at the Baltimore Police Department. Who knows why he was doing it, but hey, we all have our reasons. Unprovoked, Detective Bunk Moreland creeps up with a pair of scissors and cuts his tie in half. The other cops watch and laugh. WTF?!?
Bunk is a detective and friend of Jimmy McNulty, the main character in the series. Wikipedia describes him as generally competent, if profane and curmudgeonly. I’m not sure how to characterize what he does here, but I must say he’s way out of line – this aggression will not stand, man.
Can’t wait to see Crutchfield get back at Bunk at some point. Otherwise, watch out for TND fan fiction later this year.
