Nappin’ Ain’t Easy 6
Escaping Shawshank ain’t easy
As Andy wrote to Red in The Shawshank Redemption, “If you’ve come this far, maybe you’re willing to come a little further.”
Over the last five days, we’ve established that:
Napping can be intimidating, and certainly challenging, for many people — it may not be as arduous as Andy’s journey through “five hundred yards of sh!t smelling foulness I can’t even imagine,” but it is humbling in its degree of difficulty
It is more difficult than sleep due to irregularities in schedule and time constraints
Calming the mind for napping serves a purpose for napping but also for the development of mind control that benefits us during our daily routine
And yet meditation seems to dominate the conversation when it comes to accessing the benefits of lowering stress, improving focus, reducing brain chatter, boosting energy, and long term mind control. We at TND have nothing against mediation, and at times practice it ourselves, but in choosing between the two for long term benefits, we believe napping stands alone.
[Editor’s note: a good friend and longtime meditator recently shared that TND has gotten him experimenting with subbing a nap in for his afternoon meditation — we’re changing lives, y’all! With that, I’m going to take the baton from Henrietta for the rest of the week.]
