Let’s be Frank about Fenway
If I could nap in one of my favorite spots
Tonight I took my youngest and his buddy to Fenway Park for a mid-summer matchup between the Red Sox and the Kansas City Royals.
Fenway is one of my favorite places to visit. I grew up watching Red Sox games here and now take my kids here every summer to cheer on their hometown team.
I’ve seen two of my favorite bands here — Phish played here a few years ago (played one heck of a superset after an impressive lightning storm), and I took my mom, wife and sister here for Paul McCartney two summers ago (amazing an 80 year old can still rock straight for 3+ hours).
But the one downside of Fenway Park is that it is really not conducive for napping. Even as I write this, I’m sitting in an old wooden seat with not enough legroom and nary even a cup holder.
If I could change one thing about my beloved Fenway, it would be to make those seats just a little more nap worthy, even for a day. Ah how I’d snooze on a July afternoon through the 5th inning after enjoying a Sam Adams and Fenway Frank.
But let’s be frank, that’s part of the charm of this old stadium. My ancestors didn’t nap here and neither will I. Cheer for the Sox today, nap somewhere else tomorrow. Let’s go Red Sox!
