Indulgent?
Yes, it was
It’s true. I’ve been on a hot streak. Away for MLK weekend, I managed a nap everyday of a 5 day trip. I had plane naps, a beach nap, and a poolside nap. I had a flex nap (before noon) and a late afternoon nap. I had timed naps and untimed naps. I had food coma naps, a bit-of-a-buzz nap, and post-activity naps. Each was a wonderful luxury in its own right, special, for the time, place or experience. But my proudest achievement was the double nap day. And in particular, to achieve that on the Day of Rest had special meaning.

When I posted my victory to our chat room, I anticipated the normal satisfaction that comes with relaying good news to friends who appreciate your good news. I was happy to receive the accolades that came with a win for our nap team. But Matt’s description of my achievement stole the day. He called it “indulgent.” It was. I had already napped once, and I could have used the remainder of the day to do anything. Certainly, between naps, I did plenty. I went in the pool with my son, fed him, and played five games of Uno with him (losing 4. He will regret it). But when the mood washed over me again, I let it lift me up and put it right where it wanted me — on an outdoor couch, on my side, pillows under my head, arm and between my legs, and eyes closed. Indulgent.
