Happy New Year

Eagerly anticipating my first nap of the year

Hello from southern Vermont! Was up later than usual last night watching old videos of drunken, inappropriate Andy Cohen. We have a good 4-5 hours in the car today as we head back to life (back to reality), have no doubt that I will close my eyes and lose consciousness somewhere in New York, likely going beyond the realm of napping into straight up sleep — a fine and often underappreciated line that I plan to discuss in depth in 2023.

My father-in-law is Japanese, and New Year’s Day is particularly important in Japanese culture. We rang in the new year with Osechi-ryōri (御節料理, お節料理 or おせち), traditional and symbolic Japanese foods arranged in ornate, stackable boxes.

Wishing health and happiness to all — excited to see what 2023 has in store.
