Farewell Italia
All great naps must come to an end
This is a blog about napping. But sometimes even us dedicated, card-carrying nappers have moments when we need to fight every urge to close our eyes and fall asleep.
Such was the case on the flight home from Italy, where, after enjoying some incredible naps across this beautiful land, I really wanted to right away get back on Eastern Standard Time.
Our flight left Rome at 5:15 p.m., which is late morning back on the East Coast (I keep forgetting if it’s a 6 or 7 hour time difference), and would be landing at 8:44 p.m. at JFK, which mean that I’d have to basically stay up all night Italian time.
I was ready for the task. Headphones in hand, I knew the only thing that would keep me awake was some good old fashioned superhero movies. Black Adam. Check. Captain Marvel. Check. Avengers: End Game. Made it through the first two hours before touching down in the Big Apple. I did it!
But even I couldn’t overcome the napping gods on the hour and a half ride home to Connecticut. Doing my best to stay awake and claim that I had defeated jetlag, I promptly lost consh in the car somewhere along the Van Wyck.
My Italian adventure began with a nap, and appropriately ended with one as well. Ultimately took a few days to fully adjust back to East Coast time. But as we say in the biz, “any nap is a good nap.” Ciao.
