Jacoby Brissett: one of a handful of NFL players I now know

I am not a sports guy. It never ceases to amaze my friends and brother — as an example, I just learned that the Eagles went 14 and 3 this year. That said, I will occasionally encounter a sports story so compelling that I have no choice but to take notice. Practice. Playoffs. Trust the process. Collargate.

This is not that kind of story, though I think it’s worth shouting out Cleveland Browns quarterback Jacoby Brissett and his fondness of napping. Drew Pentzing, his QB coach, describes him as “a nap guy.” We should all be so lucky.

Thank you for reading To Nap, Divine. This post is public so feel free to share it.

BrownsZone.com broke this story in August 2022. Brissett:

“It’s really time to myself and then my eyes just happen to go to sleep,” he said, noting his normal naptime was being interrupted. “Just a couple minutes just to be to myself and kind of just relax in the midst of all the commotion of meetings and walkthrough and working out and stuff like that. Just trying to relax a little bit.”

‘Nuff said.

Sometimes there's a man. I won't say a hero, 'cause what's a hero? Sometimes there's a man, and I'm talkin' about Jacoby Brissett here, sometimes there's a man, well, he's the man for his time and place. Photo from brownszone.com, no rights asserted as to image. Tried to find a pic of him napping but couldn’t

On a not unrelated note, I wanted to cite this coverage from the Orange and Brown Report, where Barry McBride heroically editorializes about napping and his wife’s feelings on it. My wife and I have been discussing her writing a guest post about her views on my napping. Once we negotiate who gets final cut, I’ll circle back to McBride in my rebuttal (obviously I will get the last word).
