Back on the Train
Ideas that would take me all around the world
Sure I loved napping in an ancient Roman temple. And who wouldn’t love a nap along the beautiful Amalfi Coast? But what about the journey between those places? Don’t the Italian train rides deserve some love?
They sure do. To step away from the napping realm for just a moment — I love America. There’s a lot we do great, better than anyone else. But the trains. The Italians, and really the Europeans, have a thing or two to teach us here.
Trains in Italy are easy to navigate, cheap, and the hands down the best way to travel around the country. The cars are modern, clean, and if you ride in a Business Class car (which we somehow did for one of our trips) they offer you snacks and drinks like you’re on an airplane.
All this is to setup the fact that I sure as heck napped on those trains as we traveled from Rome to Tuscany to the Amalfi Coast. They are quiet, comfy, and cool (which for those who have been to Italy know, they don’t really believe in air conditioners).
Plus, there’s wifi on the train so my kids could watch their YouTube videos or whatnot and not tap my shoulder telling me that they’re bored or don’t want to read the book we made them lug around Italy for two weeks.
High speed trains yield delectable naps. I hope it doesn’t take me a long time to get back on the train.
