Welcome to Five-ish Things by Ani King!

Thanks for signing up for my newsletter, I hope you enjoy the bite-sized and occasional content.

A note on what to expect: I’ll never spam you with ads and I’ll never share your information with any other entity. If there’s a link to buy a book, it’ll go directly to the publisher if at all possible, or bookshop.org, not Amazon. I’ll only suggest a book for purchase if I’ve read it and loved it. I don’t do do affiliations or sponsorships, so none of my suggestions will be motivated by anything but love. Or amusement. Or raccoons.

Your first five-ish things:

  1. Sissy by Annie Johnson, Flash Frog
I love a queer story, I love a Sisyphus story, I LOVE that this story is both and I have been reading it obsessively since it came out.

  2. These Worn Bodies by Avitus B. Carl, from Moon City Press
Every single flash story in this collection is incredible. My favorite is Vagabond Mannequin.

  3. Writing prompt: Pick the most boring thing you can see right now. Make it the key to saving the universe.

  4. Quote: “The artist deals with what cannot be said in words.

The artist whose medium is fiction does this in words. The novelist says in words what cannot be said in words.”

―Ursula K. Le Guin,The Left Hand of Darkness

  5. Raccoon:

Picture of a young raccoon, maybe a baby, in a nest of long green leaves. Its face is at least top five cutest of faces.
    Image title: Raccoon procyon lotor
