hi friends,
today marks the last day of 2024.
i'm a little wary of getting too hyped up about the upcoming year. some of us had a good year, and some of us had a not-so-good year.
some of us had it somewhere in between, like me.
however your year went, i truly hope you have a happy new year, no matter what it looks like for you.
and may whatever 2025 has in store for you bring you closer to bliss.

🪴 this week: i write about syd barrett of pink floyd, the kingdom, and the shit i'm going to leave behind in 2024.
this is a little niche, but it's also a very personal documentary review.
it's mmff season, and i liked a filipino movie gasp.
you'll be surprised with what's on the top of my list.
• cinema speculation by quentin tarantino: a semi-autobiographical book by QT, laced with film analysis, appreciation, and critique. quentin is a masterful storyteller; he could literally talk about a rock, and i’d still be interested in what he has to say. this is my second time reading this book, and i'm enjoying it even more than i did the first time, two years ago.
• 2025 ins and outs according to the creative substack community: as far as trends go, i'm not the best at keeping up with them. i enjoy articles like this because they give me an idea of what's in the zeitgeist. as a former advertising girlie, i'm still interested in staying in the know.
• a complete unknown (2024): the new bob dylan biopic starring timothée chalamet. to my earlier point about being bad with trends, i didn’t even know who timothée was until this year. i had to learn about him through my 70-year-old tito. i’m steering clear of any movie reviews online, hoping that this film releases in theatres after mmff.
• the death of personal style
: a long form video by youtuber mina le. following an internet personality for a long time gives you the privilege to see their character development over the years—and this video perfectly captures mina's. i continue to be at awe with her extensive knowledge in fashion, her journalism skills, and her video editing skills. fashion also isn't my forte, so i learn a lot from her.
that's all i have for today, friends. thank you for reading my last newsletter ever for 2024. you won't be seeing the last of me.
i'm going to dress up for the night's festivities now.
happy mother effing new year!
xx
