#67 Honey-gooey
Issue #67 Honey-gooey
21st June 2023
Hello.
I hope this email finds you well?
I was meant to be in Amsterdam this week but had to cancel due to a pressing family issue. This means that, for the first time since I went freelance, I have free time in my calendar.
So I've decided to redecorate the spare room and turn it into a new office. I'm looking at standing desks and house plants and beautiful framed prints of comic book art. I'm in heaven.
I promise I'll take pictures when it's all done.
But for now...
Rule of three
[Newsletter] Workspaces
Fellow improviser and rhyming name twin Chris Read, recommended this amazing newsletter that showcases creative workspaces. I am utterly delighted by this kind of content. I find it so inspiring to see how other people set up their personal spaces. Obviously, this has given me loads of ideas for my new office too.
[Coaching] Hemispheres
I've always been so impressed by the talent and work ethic of Austin's Kaci Beeler. She seems to do so many things effortlessly. Recently, Kaci recommended an integrative success coach who she claimed had totally transformed her approach to life and work. As Kaci was already such a powerhouse, I couldn't resist getting in contact and booking a session at Hemispheres myself. I have to say, I was immediately impressed by Cherie's manner and perspicacity. After just two exploratory sessions, I have gotten so much out of her process and outlook on life. Even just following her stories on Instagram is a treat.
[Food] Shack Fuyu
Shack Fuyu serves Japanese Yoshoku food, a Western-influenced cooking style popular in Japan. I had the opportunity to return there this week and can thoroughly recommend the hot stone rice and beef fillet with yuzu hollandaise. The real star of the show though, is the French toast with matcha soft serve. The combination of honey-gooey bread pudding and earthy green tea is astonishing.
Spotlight
Not much to promote this week, except to say there are still a few places left on my Mockumentary Now! course at Theatre Deli in London town. Based on things like This is Spinal Tap and The Office, this is one of my all-time favourite improv things to teach. I can't wait for July so we can get started. Come play!
Longform thoughts
Chris Mead is an improviser, writer and creator who lives in the beautiful Surrey Hills with his wife, Laura & Cavapoo dog-pal, Radio.
I couldn't resist doing my own version of the Workspaces newsletter with my current office setup.
