#6 Blink 182 x Earth, Wind & Fire
Issue #6 Blink 182 x Earth, Wind & Fire
20th April 2022
Hello. It's me. Chris Mead.
So, I've had a bit of a week. The headline is that Radio unfortunately got tangled up in my dad's legs - the result being a fractured ankle for my dad and our little puppy gaining the experience of being landed on by a 73 year old gentleman. Not fun for either of them.
They're both fine, although Radio let out the kind of soul-piercing scream that will live in my nightmares for all eternity.
By contrast my dad said "Well this is a bit of bother isn't it, Old Chap?"
In the end, we're all stories. We just have to make sure we're good ones.
Rule of three
[Magic] Zack King
I first encountered Zack King on TikTok where I thought he absolutely nailed the short form storytelling required to really shine on that platform. I have no idea how he does half the stuff he does - it seems to be a combination of CGI, clever editing, sleight of hand and massive props. But the results are super compelling.
[Commentary] F.D Signifier
Friend of the newsletter and all-round ace human Rita Suszek introduced me to the wonderful world of long form YouTube by recommending F.D Signifier. He's a brilliant media critic and his ongoing series Black Media Breakdown is fascinating viewing, I really appreciate his perspective, particularly on issues of race and art. I'm right at the beginning of my journey here but so far I've really enjoyed his pieces on Bo Burnham and Dave Chappelle.
[Music] Mash-ups
I like it when an artist takes two songs and makes them into one song. I am a simple creature in many ways. If you are a simple creature too, enjoy these songs. And, as always, send me your favourites.

Spotlight
At the beginning of this year, I played a squid-like alien called Biscuit in a VR improv show called The Galaxicle Implosions. We're still hatching plans for season 2 of that show but Biscuit recently popped up on a Douglas Adams-inspired podcast called Hitchhikers & Appetizers. In the episode he is interviewed by two charming freelancers hoping to update the Guide entry for his home planet of Squidge. Sometimes characters have a life of their own.
Longform thoughts
Looking down into the cabinet Harvey feels the world he knows suddenly run full tilt into a brick wall. Because it isn’t a trick. Inside the cabinet Hilda’s body ends at the waist, pushed up firmly against the metal of the saw.
Read my full short story Hilda is Beside Herself. It's a story about finding the magic in the everyday. It's ultimately a story of redemption but I do want to flag a trigger warning for suicidal ideation.
Radio days
Check out my new socks, Radio! (and thanks to my improv students for buying them for me)
