#48 Curation & care
Issue #48 Curation & care
8th February 2023
Hi everyone.
This past week, I’ve been hurled back into the exciting world of virtual reality improv. We’ve worked on two shows. One was a brand new experience; House of Masks used motion capture suits to tell the eerie story of a group of friends visiting an ancient house full of secrets. And this week we’re back on the Worldship Bearthur for Season 2 of The Galaxicle Implosions, our SciFi VR sitcom.
I can’t tell you how nice it’s been to be back as Biscuit, the ship’s loveable alien stowaway. We were lucky enough to have the whole cast return for this new run and it’s a real pleasure to work with everyone again. If you’d like to come watch us on 8th/ 9th February (either in person or via YouTube streaming) then visit the Galaxicles website here.
I get so excited when I think about the possibilities that this technology creates for actors, artists and improvisers. The next few years are going to be a wild ride.
Rule of three
[Cinema] The Garden Cinema
I recently became a member of this cinema in Covent Garden. I don’t think I’ve ever visited a more beautiful movie theatre. Such a pleasure to simply sit in one of its cosy nooks with a tea and watch the world go by. If that wasn’t enough, the programming is beautiful too - a real sense of curation and care. My perfect movie-going experience.
[Podcast] Office Ladies
Following on from my complete rewatch of the US Office last week - I’ve discovered the Office Ladies podcast where cast members Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey focus on each episode of the series in turn. Their obvious affection for each other is a delight, as is the wealth of behind the scene stories and gossip on offer. Kinsey in particular is a revelation, just light-years away from her on-screen character, Angela (and with a background in improv too).
[Article] British Theatre Royalty
I found this article fascinating. After the recent Nepo Baby kerfuffle in the US, it takes the time to look at the British acting community and it’s truly startling how interconnected everyone is. Though I would never want to deny the hard work and talent of the ones who make it - this throws into stark relief the problems facing working-class actors & minority voices in the industry.
