#46 Toy monkey friend
Issue #46 Toy monkey friend
25th January 2023
Hello, friends!
It's cold here in the UK. And I mean bitterly cold. It's the kind of chill that seeps into your bones and makes you want to stay in bed.
We're going through a run of misty grey days, and I've got to say, pals, it's affecting my mood.
I feel a bit grey too.
Luckily, I have Radio to remind me to cherish the simple things. He's having a blast. Currently, he's sitting beside me in my office, having a good chew on his toy monkey friend, Egg. As we speak, he's in the process of ripping an arm off.
Life is good.
Although, arguably, not for Egg.
Rule of three
[TV] Britishness
Being British is complicated. I feel a lot of conflicting emotions about our national identity. But there is a core eccentricity to Britishness that I adore. To explain further, I'd like to present two archive clips from British TV.

[Article] Sarah Michelle Gellar
I was in love with Sarah Michelle Gellar throughout my teenage years. Buffy was funny and sexy and clever. Now, that show's legacy has been complicated by the many revelations surrounding its creator, Joss Whedon. Gellar, for her part, seemed to fade into the background. This Hollywood Reporter article on her return to ass-kicking TV made me unexpectedly emotional - her work ethic, her focus on family (including a successful 20-year marriage in Hollywood) and her fierce determination to protect her young co-stars from the abuses she suffered - basically, I think I'm still in love with Sarah Michelle Gellar.
[Music] YEBBA and Jacob Collier
This beautiful version of Bridge Over Troubled Water is why I get so excited about the collaborations that platforms like TikTok make possible. And that makes me think about how Walk Off The Earth got their kids to cover their still unreleased single, My Stupid Heart.
Spotlight
I've renamed my Farnham Improv classes More Than This Improv and have committed to running weekly drop-ins every Thursday for the whole of 2023. They're at the beautiful Farnham Maltings art space and will start at 7 pm. These classes have a new home on Meetup. Please recommend the drop-ins to any friends you have in the area - I really do believe that improv is transformational whether you are a performer or not. Everyone can benefit from playing more - it's so lovely to see a big group of adults making each other laugh.
Longform thoughts
