#25 A bit fancy
Issue #25 A bit fancy
1st September 2022 (Sorry I'm a day late)
Greetings from Norway!
First things first, Radio is doing really well and has recovered entirely. Thank you for the flurry of well wishes and sweetly worded emails. He feels very loved.
The Trondheim International Impro Festival is in full swing and I can't quite put into words how special it feels. Like the parts of me that had come adrift are slowly pulling themselves back together. All the love and talent and generosity on display here - it's a profoundly healing experience.
This will necessarily be a concise week as there is A LOT going on but I'm grateful for your company and continued support.
Now, here's some things to make you laugh (and think).
Rule of three
[Video] Tiny haka
This cute video of a toddler performing a haka wins the internet for me this week.
[Comedy] The Kids in the Hall
I recently spent a wonderful evening with super Canadian Lee White, drinking gin and watching a curated selection of his favourite The Kids in the Hall sketches. It was an excellent way to get up to speed before launching myself into their acclaimed reunion show. My favourite sketch was this one about finding a stray business man on the street.
[Drink] Kombucha
I'm not super into drinking alcohol (late night comedy watching aside) but am always interested in finding other drinks that feel like they are a special occasion to open. You know, a bit fancy. Kombucha is sparkling fermented tea. It's actually good for you and can easily be drunk in place of wine. My two favourites (by a considerable margin) are Left Field and Real.
Spotlight
Our next Improv Cinema Club starts next Monday. This time Tara and I are tackling the birth of American Indie Cinema. Still time to get tickets if you're interested. Read more about it and secure your place here.
Longform thoughts
"In essence, a good improv show leverages the imaginations of its audience to create the world it inhabits. So every audience member is seeing their own version of [the show]."
Seven habits is on pause this week as I haven't had time to write something new. Here's an essay from last year - Should improv be recorded?
Radio days
Thank goodness for you, Radio!
