#142 Drawing pigeons (badly)
Ireland. Norway. Poland. Austria. Home.
27 NOVEMBER 2024
Hello, friends.
Time for this improviser to hang up his travelling shoes for another year. I’m now back in the UK for the rest of 2024.
I’ve absolutely adored meeting wonderful improvisers in Ireland, Norway, Poland and Austria these past couple of months but it’s also great to be back home.
December calls now, with its combination of celebration, reflection and dreaming new dreams.
Rule of three
[TV] Int. Chinatown
You know those pre-credit sequences in police procedurals where a random character comes across a body or witnesses a crime? This is about a Chinese waiter who realises he’s an extra in a TV show and spends the rest of the season trying to become more central to the story.
[Music] Aesop Rock
Jacob Banigan introduced me to Aesop Rock last week and I’m a little obsessed now. He’s a proper MC, not a novelty act or parody, his bars are complex, layered and densely structured … and then he raps about paranoia, drawing pigeons (badly) and how his cat keeps eating leaves.
[Movies] Miniatures
Absolute gem of a YouTube documentary about the use of miniatures in modern filmmaking with particular reference to Wes Anderson. The craft and attention to detail is incredible to me, but they definitely shouldn’t be called miniatures, they’re MASSIVE.
Longform thoughts
Jim asks: would you rather have the legs of an ostrich or the snout of a crocodile?
Well, I did say I’d answer ANY question. Read my thoughts in Act like animals.
Radio contact
After a VERY muddy walk this morning, Radio had to go in the shower and he is NOT happy with me.
