Masha's Roulette #8: Time Loops!
Welcome to the eighth issue of my weekly random grab-bag of recommendations newsletter, where I will show you some things to read and some things to listen to, and my solemn promise that at least one item in here will be new and interesting to you.
My friend and I have been watching the Tatami Galaxy lately, which is about time resetting and repeating but not exactly looping repeatedly, so the theme of the week is Things With Time Loops in them.
First, Some Things to Listen To (With Time Loops In Them)
There is a reason the Kagerou Project was as popular as it was back in like 2015 or so and the reason is JIN can make bangers and Kagerou Daze/Days was in fact a banger. Miku's voice is so light and clear, It is also about time loops! It is the only song I know about time loops. But here is another song about time and one about loops
Now, Some Things to Read (With Time Loops In Them)
Now Wait for This Week by Alice Sola Kim
Original short story, discussions of #metoo and sexual violence. It's Bonnie's birthday drinks, her friends can't stop talking about shitty men, and Bonnie can't stop reliving the week.
Surviving Romance by Lee Yone
Original Webtoon.
Summary: When Chaerin Eun becomes the protagonist of the romance novel she is reading, she expects a fairytale ending with the novel’s love interest, Jeha. But when a bizarre twist makes her realize the story is not playing out as it does in the book, she’ll need the help of an unlikely character from her class to defy the new storyline and find her happy ending -- if only she can figure out who this ‘Unknown Extra’ is first!
Warning for gore and violence. Someday there will be a season 2...
Smash Cut by ftld
Fandom: Haikyuu!!, Pairing: Kuroo Tetsurou/Tsukishima Kei, Rating: T Word count: 71k
Summary: It’s not August 7th in particular that sucks so much, Tsukishima explains, bored and dispassionate with his arms crossed over his chest as he seethes at the coffee maker as if it has, personally, wronged him. It’s more that it’s a Tuesday so it’s mediocre by default. It’s a day stuck in the frustrating valley between signing his V-League contract and getting to play. The weather is viciously humid, the heat unrepentant, the tar gluing the streets of Sendai together sticks to the soles of his shoes if he’s not careful to avoid it.
Oh, and that pesky thing where it won’t stop being August 7th.
tomorrow isn't always another day by suitablyskippy
Fandom: Mob Psycho 100, Pairing: Gen, Rating: G Word count:18k
Summary: It’s like Reigen’s been waiting for the question. He stops dead on the pavement, grips Mob by the shoulders, and stares down into his eyes with an expression as haunted as though every ghost the pair of them has ever exorcised has taken up residence behind it. “Mob,” he says. “Mob,” he says again. “Tell me, Mob. Look at me and tell me. Tell me truthfully. Do I look cursed to you?”
Mob looks at him, and tells him truthfully. “No.”
“Well, you didn’t look very long,” says Reigen. “Let’s just stand here for a moment, like so, and you can have another look, a nice long look, and really think about it...”
(There's nothing strange about being called back to exorcise the same haunted photocopier six days in a row. It must just be a very haunted photocopier.)
Russian Doll on Netflix
2 seasons, 15 episodes total
Summary: The series follows Nadia Vulvokov (Lyonne), a game developer who repeatedly dies and relives the same night in an ongoing time loop and tries to solve it, leading to her finding Alan Zaveri (Charlie Barnett) in the same situation.
