Masha's Roulette #17: Recommendations from treasured subscribers!

newsletterheader.png

Welcome to the 17th issue of my weekly random grab-bag of recommendations newsletter, where I will show you some things to read and some things to listen to, and my solemn promise that at least one item in here will be new and interesting to you.

This week I bring you some recommendations that were brought to me via my form which I have not yet read on account of my new job really does not leave me a lot of time to read fanfiction these days, and in fact encourages me to read more non-fanfiction books. Which I've been attempting to do! I just finished Our Country Friends by Gary Shteyngart, which was interesting. But reading that on top of the comics I'm trying to keep up with left me with no time to read any fic or fic update longer than about three thousand words. If you would like to recommend your own favorite fics or fandom-related internet words, please do so!

First, Some Recommended Things to Listen To

The music choices my coworkers play in my workplace are eclectic, but not so eclectic that I'm willing to try recommending my personal favorites to be played instead. Today we had this classic as well as this other, different classic. Meanwhile I listened to this on my drive home from work today.

Now, Some Recommended Things To Read

perfect places by northkitastar

Fandom: Haikyuu!! Rating: T Word count: 9850 words, 3/? chapters Pairing: Iwaizumi Hajime/Oikawa Tooru (main), Hanamaki Takahiro/Matsukawa Issei (bg), Sawamura Daichi/Sugawara Koushi (bg)

Summary: Childhood friends Oikawa Tooru and Iwaizumi Hajime fall out after high school. Plagued by injury and parental pressures, Oikawa moves back from Tokyo to his home prefecture, while Iwaizumi grapples with family tragedy. It takes them years to meet again—both reeling from past failures and running in place, asking themselves: how did it go so wrong? Sometimes all you need is someone there by your side.

Because: Sometimes you read a fic that just takes your breath away at the first chapter from the writing and depth of thought present in the writing alone. This is one of those fics.

The Shift by Newaged_skulls

Fandom: Haikyuu!! Rating: M Word count: 7k Pairing: Miya Osamu/Suna Rintarou

Because: It's just really nice to read something where the characters and tension are both mature and realistic. There's something so wonderfully grounding about how this fic is written and how it resolves its plot.

Thank you for the recommendations! Please send more recommendations using this lovely form I created (using the Rec Center's form as a model). Am taking recs for fics, articles, interesting long blog posts, anything you think would appeal to other readers of Masha's Roulette.

I'll be back next week with more things to listen to and read!
