Hey folks, this is Mo Bitar, previously founder of Standard Notes. If you recall, you likely subscribed to me back when my blog was on Listed. I've since moved my blog to a custom setup and am using Buttondown for email.

I left Proton last year and am building a new product: Shape.

Shape is a simple encrypted workspace for teams, and is likely unlike anything you've seen before.

The story took a turn yesterday when I received a letter from Proton asking that I not ship my product before my non-compete expires in 2027, even though the product is not a violation in the slightest.

As an indie developer trying to figure out how to make a living and survive the upcoming AI takeover of software, I took this to be an act of pure corporate greed and personal attack on my livelihood.

Unfortunately I don't have a legal team to send letters, so I thought I would take the opportunity to address the letter in a video and share a first look at what Shape actually is.
