Tony's Pick
A note: I take full responsibility for the delay on this issue, and beg your forgiveness. I never read Kyle’s pick (who has the time?), so I don’t know if it’s become stale since he picked it weeks ago. I hope his feelings aren’t hurt!
Another podcast pick from me this week. If you know and love patio11, you probably already know about his new podcast, Complex Systems. If not: Patrick talks like he writes, and it’s pretty idiosyncratic. It might not work for you, but it weirdly maps onto my brain pretty well. Anyway, it’s “esoteric technical deep dives on interesting topics”, aka my usual kind of pick. If you’re at all intrigued, worth a shot!
Kyle's Pick
I’ve been listening to The Studies Show podcast regularly for the last year or so, so it’s probably about time to recommend it. Two science writers with great accents talk about various media hype cycle topics in science, ranging from “Is alcohol good or bad for you?” to “Should we expose children to peanuts to reduce allergies?”
They half-jokingly refer to the podcast as “the studies don’t show” and regularly discuss statistical significance, p-hacking, Bayes’ theorem, and more.
